Das RINECKER PROTON THERAPY CENTER ist Europas erstes klinisch betriebenes Protonentherapiezentrum und setzt seit März 2009 neue Standards in der onkologischen Protonentherapie. Die Anlage verfügt über ein Scanning-Bestrahlungssystem und ist derzeit technologisch weltweit führend. Sie weist in Bezug auf Strahlintensität, Reichweite, Strahlpräzision und -steuerung das heute erreichbare Maximum auf.

Auf Grund der Inbetriebnahme der Behandlungsplätze Gantry drei und vier suchen wir weiterhin in Vollbeschäftigung

Medizinphysiker/Medizinphysikerinnen

Die Beschäftigung ist als unbefristetes Anstellungsverhältnis ausgelegt. Nähere Einzelheiten werden mit dem/der Bewerber/-in in einem persönlichen Vorstellungsgespräch abgestimmt.

Sie haben einschlägige Erfahrungen in der Strahlentherapie und die Fachkunde zum Umgang mit Linearbeschleunigern für Medizinphysikexperten. Erfahrung in der Hadronentherapie würde eine schnelle Einarbeitung in die komplexe Materie sehr erleichtern, ist aber nicht Voraussetzung, da Sie bei uns die Fachkunde für Protonentherapie erwerben können.

Sie arbeiten interdisziplinär in einem Team von Ärzten, Physikern und Technikern in Kooperation mit der Herstellerfirma. Ihre Aufgaben umfassen die Etablierung neuer Techniken und Verfahren bei der Kommissionierung der Gesamtanlage zur vollen Funktionalität sowie die klinische Anwendung der Protonentherapie im Bereich der Bestrahlungsplanung, Qualitätssicherung, Dosimetrie sowie allgemeine Strahlenschutzaufgaben. Bei Interesse besteht zudem die Möglichkeit einer übergreifenden Tätigkeit im Bereich der bildgebenden Diagnostik inklusive PET-CT.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced radiotherapy physicist to join the Radiotherapy physics team in our modern, well-equipped department located on the South Coast of England. 
The postholder will take on the lead role for all aspects of developing & maintaining our external beam treatment planning service, including the management/supervision of 7 FTE dosimetrists, whilst having the opportunity to participate in other aspects of clinical radiotherapy physics and dosimetry.

We are about to start a IMRT prostate pilot scheme as part of the CHHIP trial, so this is an opportune time for the successful candidate to play a pivotal role in this, and expanding IMRT to other clinical sites.
We also envisage adopting IMAT technologies within the next 2 years, along with the expansion of the Dorset Cancer Centre network by another 2 Linacs by 2016, in line with NRAG recommendations.

Appointment at Band 8A may be considered for less experienced candidates.

PhD position in health physics or health science

Description:
The Institute of Radiation Physics (IRA), part of the University Hospital (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne (UNIL), develops its activities in the fields of ionizing radiation in medicine (medical physics) and the protection of workers and the public against ionizing radiation (health physics). The IRA often collaborates with the Federal Office of Public Health to provide expertise in all aspects of health physics and radiation protection, also within the framework of the radon program in Switzerland.

The PhD student will carry out a research project in health physics related to the problem of radon gas in dwellings. The work will consist in developing statistical models to predict the concentration of radon in dwellings as well as making indoor and outdoor measurements.

The PhD student will also take part in the services as well as teaching activities of the institute. In parallel to the thesis work, the PhD student will have the possibility to obtain the professional board certification in medical physics.

This research subject will be performed within the framework of the doctoral school of UNIL.

Position requirements:
• Master in sciences;
• Strong interest for research;
• Nimble-mindedness, sense of collaboration, creativity, good analytical and synthesis capacities;
• Working language: French or English.

Your tasks
We are seeking a person with considerable radiotherapy experience to lead and coordinate the clinical operation of the proton facility at PSI. You would be primarily involved in all medical physics aspects of the proton gantries (e.g. treatment planning, plan validation, QA etc) and will be expected to take on major responsibility for the clinical commissioning and acceptance of the new gantry (Gantry 2), as well as the clinical operation of the existing facility (Gantry 1). In addition, you would also be expected to contribute to the research interests of the group and to act as deputy to Tony Lomax, head of the medical physics group.

Your profile
You should be a qualified and board certified (or equivalent) Medical Physicist, with experience in radiotherapy. Furthermore, you should be prepared to work in a team and have a good knowledge of German and/or English. Previous proton therapy experience would be an advantage but is not absolutely necessary.

Medical Physicist in proton therapy

Your tasks
You would be primarily involved in the medical physics aspects of the existing gantry and with the development and commissioning of our second gantry (e.g. definition of specifications, commissioning and acceptance, treatment planning, etc). As such, you would be expected to share the responsibilities of these duties with the other medical physicists in the group. In addition, you would also be expected to contribute significantly to the research interests of the group, in particular in the areas of image guidance and treatment planning.

Your profile
You should ideally be a qualified and board certified (or equivalent) Medical Physicist, with experience in radiotherapy and/or imaging. However, exceptional candidates without such qualification would also be considered. Good and demonstrable software and IT skills would be advantageous. UN-E PHYSICIEN-NE CHEF-FE

Le service de radiothérapie est intégré au département pluridisciplinaire d’oncologie et traite par année environ 800 patients. Il est doté de deux accélérateurs linéaires multilames dont l’un est équipé d’une imagerie de guidage 3D (IGRT), d’un système de simulation virtuelle-planification de dose intégré, d’une unité de curiethérapie à haut débit ainsi que d’un dispositif d’hyperthermie. Le remplacement de l’un des accélérateurs par une nouvelle génération capable de traitements par technique d’arcthérapie volumique modulée (VMAT) ainsi que l’installation d’un système d’information radio-oncologique (MOSAIQ) est prévu pour 2010.

Le titulaire du poste aura pour mission d’assurer l'organisation et le bon fonctionnement de l’ensemble des activités relevant de la physique médicale ainsi que la gestion de l’équipe de travail (3 physiciens). Il travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les médecins radio-oncologues dans l’ensemble des activités de physique médicale du service, notamment en matière de planification, réalisation et vérification des plans de traitements ainsi qu’au contrôle de qualité de routine et de calibration des appareillages.

Physicist seeking a position in Medical Physics in Switzerland

If possible I would like to combine my work with a research project in order to obtain a PhD degree in one of the following fields:
- Investigation of new therapeutic radiation methods
- Investigation of the process of the passage of particles through biological matter (modelling, measurements etc.)
- Investigation of the effect of the electromagnetic field on biological processes
- Investigation of Medical Accelerators
- Investigation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) methods
- Etc.

So far I have a Bachelor’s degree in Theoretical Physics from Zandjan University in Iran and a Master’s degree in Medical Physics from the Division of Physics of High Energy Accelerators at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia.

During my studies I had the chance to broaden my practical knowledge in several workshops and laboratories, e.g. at the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Dubna, a branch of Moscow State University (Russia) and also at the Research Center for Science and Technology in Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Science in Iran. The workshops were mainly on Medical Imaging and Radiosurgery Systems and also on planning and preparing patients for radiation theraphy with Linac.

Concerning computer skills, I am able to work with the following programmes:
- Geant4 (Computer simulation)
- C++ and Pascal programming
- Linux, Windows Vista, MC Excel etc.

Languages: Persian (mother tongue), Russian (excellent), English (reading and writing, to prepare for TOEFL or IELTS), German (basic knowledge in reading and writing, but working on it).
